Dear INSMEnews Readers,

We are pleased to announce the launch of the website dedicated to the first INSME Annual Meeting: www.annualmeeting2005.insme.org. You can already find on-line useful information about this important event for the life of our Association, due to take place at the World Trade Center in Barcelona (Spain) on April 13-15, 2005, and intended to mark a step ahead in consolidating INSME's reputation and visibility worldwide.

We invite you to refer to this website to view the regularly updated draft agenda of the meeting and to register to attend. We encourage in particular non-Members to register before January 20, 2005, in order to benefit from the reduced fee available for early registrants.

Moreover, we would like to welcome INSME's new Members: ASTER from Italy and the Association of the Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Serbia and Montenegro. With these two organisations joining the Association, INSME has now 45 Members.

We encourage both public and private organisations from all regions to join the INSME Association: the more Members are involved worldwide, the more opportunities for cross border cooperation will arise for everybody.

One final piece of information: the next issue of INSMEnews will be released in mid-December. Proposals for contributions to be included in the next issue are welcome by December 13 at the latest.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Ms. Simona Marzetti
INSME Secretary General

   IPI-IKED Working Paper on Incubators and Venture Capital

How can incubators and venture capital investors cooperate? How lucrative is the collaboration for the involved parties? How is it possible to increase the venture capital investment flow to firms within incubators?

In order to shed light on these important issues, the Italian Institute for Industrial Promotion (IPI) and the International Organisation for Knowledge Economy and Enterprise Development (IKED) have carried out a survey on 28 incubators from 15 different countries.

The results of this survey will be presented in a working paper to be issued in December 2004. Until then, an executive summary can be downloaded from the INSME portal:

   Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE)

The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati, established in the year 1993 by the erstwhile Ministry of Small Scale Industry, Government of India with an aim to undertake training, research and consultancy activities in the small industry sector has been doing yeoman's service in the field of imparting entrepreneurial development training. As an institute set up in an industrially backward region of India, the challenges in the path of promoting entrepreneurship are many. In the last decade of its existence, the Institute has carried out a large number of training programmes both for potential and existing entrepreneurs and has also carried out research studies documenting success stories, the status of small scale industries etc. in North East India.

Through the network, the Institute would like to:

  1. Share some of its findings and understand various strategies for Entrepreneurship Development undertaken by other member organisations;
  2. Evolve a business development model for underdeveloped and developing countries;
  3. Explore the possibility of replicating some of its work in other parts of the world.

INSME's Interviews
   Interview with Mr. Munini (EIB-European Investment Bank)

"50 billion euro to win the European challenge for innovation"

That is the total amount that the European Investment Bank will make available in the decade 2000-2010 to support research, development and innovation and thus take forward the Lisbon Strategy.

Innovation 2010 Initiative is the name of the programme that makes this challenge achievable. In this interview, Mr. Munini, Co-ordinator of R&D Task Force at EIB, explains how. Above all he provides insight into the tools that channel this money to SMEs and intermediaries and makes suggestions regarding the strategic directions that Policy Makers should take in order to make the most of the EIB's funding of innovation.

INSME's Partners
   Partnership with Leaders Quest

We are pleased to offer INSME Association Members a special discount of 20% on the participation fee for Leaders Quest's meetings.

Leaders' Quest is an international, not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to be a catalyst for positive change in the world by helping leaders - from all sectors, at all levels of society and all countries - lead more responsibly.

Leaders are brought together in week-long 'learning quests' to countries which are believed to play a leading role in the future of the world. Learning quests are intensive, stretching, unorthodox programmes for small groups of 20 or so CEOs, Chairmen and heads of organisations. Leaders' Quest's approach is international in focus, multi-sectoral/multi-disciplinary in themes and issues, interactive and people-based, varied and experiential.

Leader's Quest programme for 2005 includes Quests to India (27 February - 5 March) and Brazil (2-8 October) and provides learning around three core dimensions: Commercial opportunities; Social responsibility; Leadership development and personal renewal.
