   7th INSME Annual Meeting in Helsinki, Finland, 2011

The 7th INSME Annual Meeting 2010, co-organised by the INSME Association in collaboration with EPROCA- European ProClusters Association (INSME Member), will host this year the international conference on "Competitiveness, Culture and Cross-Border Co-operation: Assisting SMEs to Grow, Innovate and Reach International Markets".

   INSME at WTA General Assembly in Taipei

The INSME Vice President, Dr. Raimund Broechler met with the World Technopolis Association - WTA President, Mayor Yum Hong-Chul during the 7th WTA General Assembly and International Conference on "Science City's Sustainable Development in the Era of Global Climate Change" held in Hsinchu City, Chinese Taipei on September 1st-4th, 2010. The meeting aimed to increase the business cooperation between the WTA and the INSME Association especially with regard to future joint activities.

   3rd WIPO-INSME Training Programme

INSME Association will organise the 3rd International Training Programme on "Financing your business with Intellectual Property Rights" in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organisation WIPO - SME Division. It will take place in Geneva, at the WIPO Headquarters, on 1st -2nd December 2010.

The 3rd WIPO- INSME International Training Programme is free of charge.
Travel costs and hotel accommodation are to be covered by each participant.

The working language will be English.

   Khalifa Fund to Support and Develop SMEs: launch of the "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center

On July 5th 2010, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Khalifa Fund for to Support and Develop SMEs to initiate a partnership for developing the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at ADU. This center is designed to help young entrepreneurs develop their ideas and realize their business ambitions. Furthermore, this collaboration will provide the necessary support services by Khalifa Fund to beneficiaries within the Center, for example in organizing Conferences and Forums aiming at developing the culture of Entrepreneurship and the creation of innovative small businesses or in conducting joint awareness sessions on Entrepreneurship and business innovation.

   Annual Meeting AL INVEST IV: outreaches

From July 19th to 21st, 2010 in Antigua, Guatemala, took place the Annual Meeting of AL-INVEST IV aimed to provide an opportunity to meet the different players of the programme, in order to promote coordination and adopt more efficient strategies and methodologies to support SMEs.

The meeting was attended by about 90 participants from member partners of the Latin American Consortia of the AL-INVEST IV Programme, the Coordination and Services Consortium, representatives from the European Union and other institutions involved in supporting SMEs.

   World Technopolis Association (WTA)

The World Technopolis Association (WTA) is a multilateral international organization, based in Daejeon (Korea), created in 1998 with the purpose to connect the advancement of science and technology with regional innovation, to achieve a shared development through cooperation, knowledge exchange and technology transfer among science cities, to assist the members in building sustainable technopolises with a global competitiveness. In particular, the WTA aims to establish international cooperation between local and regional governments in an era of knowledge-based society, as well as to share prosperity by promoting mutually beneficial partnership and exchanging experiences in a global context.

   European Alliance for Innovation (EAI)

On July 2010, the INSME Association established new collaborative relations with the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), a community of innovators, bringing together innovation leaders from industry, research, governmental and non-governmental sectors to address Europe's challenges, collaborating on technology development and entrepreneurial innovation. EAI's mission is to drive innovation in emerging information and communication technology (ICT) enabled areas. EAI supports knowledge transfer and engagement among its member community.

   European Enterprise Awards 2011

The European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry has launched the fifth edition of the European Enterprise Awards with the aim to identify and reward the most successful promoters of enterprise and entrepreneurship around Europe, showcase best entrepreneurship policies and practices, raise awareness of the added value of entrepreneurship, and encourage and inspire potential entrepreneurs.

Participants: National, regional or local authorities or public-private partnerships from all EU Member States as well as Norway, Serbia and Turkey.

Closing dates for entries to national selections is set by each country individually.

   6th Transnational EUROTRANSBIO

Call for proposals

The strategic objective of the 6th ETB call is to foster the competitive capacity Europe's biotechnology industry by supporting the research intensive SMEs and their strategic partnerships.

Participant Countries: Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Israel, The Netherlands
Participant Regions: Basque Country, Catalonia, Madrid, Navarra (Spain), Flanders and Wallonia (Belgium).

Funding is offered to innovative, near to the market R&D&I projects in all fields of modern biotechnology (red, green, white and blue). Consortia shall include SME partners from at least two countries / regions participating in ETB, and may include additional partners from research organizations or large industry.

Deadline: February 1st, 2011

   IASP 2011

Call for Papers

Issuer: The International Association of Science Parks (IASP).

Title: Roadmaps for future navigation (Copenhagen - Denmark, 19th - 22nd June 2011).

Aim: Providing sustainable solutions for the global challenges facing the further development of sustainable growth and prosperity.

Call for papers: Papers should showcase global STP strategies in a series of in-depth discussions of the future direction of science and technology park management and development.

The deadline for submission of papers' abstracts: 15th October 2010.

Ideas and designs are the lifeblood of creative businesses and infringement can be particularly costly and damaging. However, creative ideas and designs that are not adequately protected often fall victim to infringement by potential Chinese clients or Chinese competitors.

Interesting Initiatives
   INCONET- GCC

INCONET-GCC project, funded under the EU 7th Framework Programme, has the aim to establish an international co-operation network to promote bi-regional partnerships in science and technology among the six-member of the Gulf co-operation countries (GCC), notably Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and EU Member States.

The project, launched on January 2010, will last 36 months, i.e. until December 2012.

On July 2010 the Europa InterCluster published a White Paper on the emerging of European world-class clusters which formulates a list of proposals to give Europe the means to face global competition and gain a new foothold on the International scene.

   EIM: Internationalisation of European SMEs

On 2010 the Entrepreneurship Unit, Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission has published Internationalisation of European SMEs in order to provide an updated and comprehensive overview of the level of internationalisation of European SMEs and deliver conclusions and recommendations on the issue.

   UNCTAD: World Investment Report 2010

The 2010 World Investment Report, issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development- UNCTAD (INSME Member), focuses on climate change and stresses in particular on the role that transnational corporations (TNCs) can play if supported by adequate policy initiatives, incentives and an appropriate regulatory framework.

It also proposes a global partnership to promote low-carbon investments and concrete initiatives such as the set up of a new technical assistance centre to support policy formulation and implementation in developing countries.
