   INSME at the Seminar Implementing the Innovation Union: Next Steps in Knowledge Transfer

INSME Secretary General, Ms. Simona Marzetti, attended the 3rd EU Annual Seminar Implementing the Innovation Union: Next Steps in Knowledge Transfer held in Varese and Ispra, Italy, last the 10th and 12th November. The seminar, organised by DG Research and the Joint Research Centre (JRC), focused, through an interactive discussion, on the implementation of the European Research Area knowledge transfer initiative, its progress and on the future priorities in the context of the Innovation Union.

   INSME at the OECD High Level Meeting Bologna + 10

INSME President Mr. Paolo Anselmo and INSME Secretary General Ms. Simona Marzetti attended the OECD high-level meeting Bologna + 10: SMEs and Entrepreneurship: lessons from the global crisis and the way forward to job creation and growth organised by the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and Local Development, held in Paris (France), on November 17th -18th , 2010.

High level policymakers, representatives from financial institutions and entrepreneurs from 31 OECD and several non OECD countries met in Paris to design a roadmap to ensure that SMEs and entrepreneurship make their fullest contribution to job creation. Strong action, in fact, is needed now to help governments recover from the financial crisis and to secure sustainable growth over the longer term.

INSME, enjoying the OECD moral patronage since 2004, was among the few International NGOs that joined the meeting.

   WIPO launches WIPO Lex and IP Advantage

WIPO -The World Intellectual Property Organisation (INSME Observer) launched two new tools to better disseminate information on Intellectual Property (IP):

1. WIPO Lex is a one-stop search facility for national laws and treaties on IP of WIPO, WTO (World Trade Organization) and UN (United Nations) Members. It provides streamlined access to reference material of key importance for optimal information on the global IP System.

2. The IP Advantage is a database which provides a one-stop gateway to international case studies on IP with a view to promote a better understanding of how to create and protect Intellectual Property and reap the benefits provided by the IP system.

The event took place from the 11th to the 14th October 2010 in Dubai, UAE and was co-organised by the Dubai Institute of Technology (DIT, INSME Member) and WAITRO - World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisation.

   META Group: TAKE IT UP Webinar's outreaches

The online seminar organised on the 9th November, by TAKE IT UP, promotion pillar of the Europe INNOVA initiative, on How effectively draw-up a pitch for your innovative service was joined by over 40 European professionals.

A video-presentation provided the participants with practical advice and useful suggestions on how to improve skills when presenting a product/service to potential users, stakeholders and policy makers.

The TAKE IT UP programme aims at improving the performance of European Innovation Service Providers to the benefit of SMES.

   EU: An Integrated Industrial Policy for the Globalisation Era

On the 28th October 2010, the European Commission published its flagship initiative on an industrial policy for the globalisation era, part of the Europe 2020 Strategy. The communication highlights the need for industry to play a key role if Europe is to remain a leading economic power.

   EU: 2nd European Innovation Summit: Outcomes

The 2nd European Innovation Summit - EIS on Tackling the Grand Challenges- Policy meets Practice took place from 4th to 11th October 2010 in Brussels (Belgium). The event, organised by the Knowledge4Innovation (K4I) Forum of the European Parliament, gathered more than 500 stakeholders and policy makers from Europe and beyond.

Blend Financial Services Limited, based in India, is a Business Support Organization aimed at offering to SMEs a wide range of services in areas such as Debt Syndication, Equity Advisory, Insurance and Investment Advisory, factoring, credit rating, risk management, IT infrastructure, etc.
In particular, it advises banks on areas related to SME financing offering advisory services for building specialized institutions globally, for SME development, such as, credit rating agency, credit guarantee scheme, credit insurance and risk capital venture. Furthermore BLEND, also, contributes to design strategies for strengthening the SME Sector in different countries.

Blend joined INSME in late 2010.

Partnerships
   IKED

INSME has recently reinvigorated its partnership with IKED (International Organisation for Knowledge Economy and Enterprise Development ) an independent international non-profit association and think tank based in Sweden since 2001.

IKED's objective is to contribute to processes in which analyses and policies lead to real, constructive action supporting better conditions for innovation and entrepreneurship and offering creative responses to the challenges of building a more dynamic and sustainable knowledge-based economy.

INSME has organised with IKED in Malmo (Sweden) its first meeting in February 2004.

   Innovact Campus Awards 2011

The Innovact Campus Awards 2011 aims to enable young students with a creative idea for a business innovative project to implement it at European level. The winners will receive prize money in the measure of 3,000 Euros for the 1st prize and 1,500 Euros for the 2nd and the 3rd prize.

Participants: All students individually or within the framework of their institution.

   6th Transnational EUROTRANSBIO

Call for proposals

Aim: Foster the competitive capacity of Europe's biotechnology industry by supporting research-intensive SMEs and their strategic partnerships

Participant Countries: Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Israel, The Netherlands
Participant Regions: Basque Country, Catalonia, Madrid, Navarra (Spain), Flanders and Wallonia (Belgium).

Consortia shall include SME partners from at least two countries / regions participating in ETB, and may include additional partners from research organizations or large industry.

Deadline: February 1st, 2011

   Eurostars: 6th cut off

EUREKA's Eurostars Programme is the first European funding and support programme dedicated to R&D performing SMEs. According to the EUREKA criteria, a Eurostars project includes any technological area finalised to the development of a new product, process or service. The Eurostars project involves at least two participants (legal entities) from two different Eurostars member countries. The main participant must be an R&D-performing SME from a Eurostars member Country.

Deadline: 24th March 2011

   3rd International Conference of Fashion Incubators in 2011

Call for papers

The 3rd International Conference of Fashion Incubators (ICFI) aims to foster the growth and the professional development of fashion industry business and to promote best practice across the industry. The ICFI will offer new opportunities for emerging designers and fashion business educators from around the globe to create strategic alliances and to share their experiences and expertise, to network, discuss best practice and expand global designer marketing and promotional opportunities.
Closing date for submitting papers: 31st January, 2011

   INNO-Grips started a new phase

The INNO-Grips (short for "Global Review of Innovation Policy Studies") a pillar of the EU initiative PRO INNO Europe, started a new phase of work in 2010.
Over a period of three years (2010-2012), INNO-Grips 2 will analyse framework conditions, barriers to and drivers of innovation and innovation policy and will offer a platform for public authorities, industry and academia to exchange views, ideas and best practices with a view to optimise innovation policy.
INNO-Grips consists of two pillars:
-The Innovation Policy Briefs
-Innovation Intelligence Studies

   EBAN: White Paper 2010

The EBAN White Paper 2010 on  Early stage investing: an asset class in support of the EU strategy for growth and jobs, published by EBAN - The European Trade Association for Business Angels, Seed Funds and other Early Stage Market Players (INSME Member), is aimed to present an updated perspective to policy makers regarding the key issues at stake for business angels and early-stage venture funds in the next few years, and propose some solutions to respond to the challenges listed above.

   EU: 2010 EU R&D Industrial Investment Scoreboard

The 2010 edition of the EU R&D Industrial Investment Scoreboard has been jointly prepared by the Joint Research Center (JRC) and Research (DG RTD) Directorates General of the European Commission. This year's report presents the information on the world-top 1400 companies, 400 based in EU and 1000 based elsewhere, ranked according to their level of investment in Research and Development (R&D) and shows the effect of the economic and financial crisis on the companies' financial results.

It indexes the contents of websites for 2000 Venture Capital funds, in particular 300 VCs operating in the United Kingdom, 350 in the USA and a further 1400 operating internationally.
