From the 13th to the 22nd June 2012 , the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) – Rio+20 will take place in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil with afocus on two themes: a green economy in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication and the institutional framework for sustainable development.
The Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service-SEBRAE, which celebrates this year its 40th anniversary, is taking part in Rio+20 considering it a great opportunity to introduce the small business sector in the global agenda towards sustainable development.
SEBRAE is developing initiatives geared towards SMEs to promote the concept of green economy as a competitive, sustainable and profitable business model. One of its foremost achievements was the launchin 2011 of the SEBRAE Center for Sustainability, which represents a hub for the development and exchange of best practices and ideas for green businesses. In the near future, one of its aims is to build an online database to make information more readily available to all interested parties, such as entrepreneurs, managers and policymakers.
In the Rio+20 SEBRAE will set an interactive stand focusing on the sharing of best practices, as well as tested green technologies and management practices on sustainable approaches to doing business. As highlighted by Dr. Carlos Alberto dos Santos, SEBRAE’s Technical Director, a member of the INSME Board, who will also attend the 8th INSME Annual Meeting , small businesses must be considered as part of the solution to the challenges of sustainable development, both as individuals acting collectively or as part of global value chains as their suppliers. There is a planet of opportunities to be tapped on the sustainable development agenda for small businesses, argues Dr. Santos.
SEBRAE strongly believes that small business support institutions have an important agenda to set regarding sustainable development and could significantly enrich the debate on this matter. For this reason, SEBRAE will organize on June 21st a workshop in Rio de Janeiro, called SEBRAE+20, as part of the official Rio+20 program to discuss the role of such institutions on the sustainable small business development agenda.
If you are interested to attend this workshop, please contact Mr. Eduardo Golin at eduardo.golin@sebrae.com.br.

As the trade mark represents business identity and it is used to market product, with this article, they would highlight how in China this is particularly important because not only the meaning, but also the sound, tone and even look of the Chinese characters chosen for a trade mark can affect the brand’s reputation.
As China is a ‘first-to-file’ system and generally does not recognize unregistered trade mark rights, it is very important to register your trade mark in China before entering into the market so as to diminish the risk of your trade mark being hijacked.
