The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the world economy, and it has redefined CEOs’ leadership around the world in order to manage a remarkable level of uncertainty. In “CEO Outlook-Qatar 2020”, Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, CEO at Qatar Development Bank (INSME Board Member), interviewed by KPMG, unveiled the multi-faced strategy adopted by his organisation to help SMEs turning challenges into leverage points.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of Qatar’s economy, and QDB is highly committed to providing them with additional support. In particular, Al-Khalifa stressed the actions they made in favour of SMEs like the delayed of SMEs’ loan repayment for six months and special exemptions to some business. Furthermore, QDB launched the National Guarantee Programme that helped around 3,500 local companies to sustain their expenses and develop a full set of virtual consultation and training services. QDB’s Revive programme is also another relevant initiative in support of SMEs facing this challenging time.

Finally, Abdulaziz Al Khalifa shared an optimistic vision about the growth prospects of his country despite the lack of confidence in a smooth recovery of the global economy.
