On the 9th of February 2019 the European Commission, the International Trade Centre (INSME Member) and the African Union Commission joined their forces to establish the African Union Trade Observatory which is a key pillar of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
The Observatory, supported by the EU with EUR 4 million, by providing entrepreneurs, policy makers and other key stakeholders with updated and reliable data and statistics across the continent will:
1. enable them to identify new market opportunities,
2. facilitate the monitoring of the implementation of the agreement.
All data and analyses will be made available through a web-based platform.
The Observatory, together with the African Continental Free Trade Area, “will help the continent harness its economic potential” declared Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica, and Arancha Gonzáles, Executive Director at ITC highlighted the importance of using data to make strategic decisions as key for the future success of countries.
