The World Intellectual Property Organization appoints a new Director General

The World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO (INSME Member) has recently appointed a new General Director who will succeed to Fracis Gurry who covered the position since 2008.

Mr. Tang is currently the Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore. Prior to that he was Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Legal Counsel for IPOS and Senior State Counsel, International Affairs Division at the Singapore Attorney-General’s Chambers. He also has served as Chairperson for WIPO’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights.

Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, in a letter proposing Mr. Tang’s candidature described him as “an experienced and inclusive leader who is able to balance the interests of all stakeholders to forge consensus.”

Mr. Tang will start his new position at WIPO on the 1st of October 2020.
