To inaugurate the start of the 21ˢᵗ INSME Annual Meeting, hosted in Alicante, Dr. Paola Zerilli (University of York) presented the SUPERSHINE project during the opening panel. Chaired by Giovanni Zazzerini, the session’s remarks focused on the theme of “Driving SME Competitiveness through Intellectual Property.”
SUPERSHINE is an EU-funded initiative aimed at the renovation of social housing to combat energy poverty. In her presentation, Dr. Zerilli emphasized the fundamental role of Intellectual Property (IP) protection in enabling SMEs to actively participate in Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). She explained that protecting intangible assets not only safeguards innovation, but also enhances SMEs’ ability to attract investment and strengthens their competitiveness.
Well-protected intellectual property allows SMEs to become key players in sustainable development, contributing to green innovation and energy-efficient building renovation.
By leveraging IP strategically, SMEs can transform their ideas into tangible social benefits, demonstrating that competitiveness and sustainability can go hand in hand.
