First-Ever WIPO Global Awards

29 July 2022

During the July 14-22, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Assemblies Director General Daren Tang recognised five international SMEs as winners of WIPO’s new Global Awards programme. The five winners come from four different countries (in alphabetical order): “Hydraloop” from The Netherlands, “Lucence” of Singapore, “Raycan” and “Shylon” from China, and Japan-based “Splink”.

The Global Awards program recognizes exceptional enterprises and individuals using intellectual property to make a positive impact, and contribute to WIPO’s mission of promoting intellectual property rights as a means to support innovation and creativity. Seven jurors from around the world selected the winners from among 272 submissions, spanning 62 countries. These awards celebrate innovative commercial solutions, based on IP rights, which promote economic, social and cultural progress. The winners received a personalized mentorship program to help their enterprise in leveraging IP for business growth, as well as other forms of support and sponsorship to facilitate their access to funding. Given the success of the event, in the upcoming years the WIPO Global Awards will focus and celebrate, along with small and medium-sized enterprises, on youth and women, for a more inclusive and prosperous future.
