The META Group CEO, Alessia Melasecche Germini, opened the Security Research Event (SRE) 2025. The event was held on the 24-25 of June, in Warsaw, Poland. This European forum put together industry, institutions, security forces, research entities, and critical infrastructure operators to discuss threats to security, and the contribution of European research and innovation to face them.
The event was held in a moment of geopolitical instability, extreme impact of climate change, and advanced digitalization. This situation has led to the interruption of the supply chain worldwide. In this scenario, research plays a fundamental role in detecting threats and analyzes future risks. It is crucial to guarantee the strategic autonomy of Europe. This was the main topic of the five panels of the conference, which explored the ways to reach the goals maintaining autonomy. In this sense, it will be necessary to invest in an EU-based innovation, a topic META Group – a founding INSME member – and Mrs. Melasecche Germini know extremely well.
The European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, led the dialogue on the actualization of the strategy. In this dialogue, competitive challenges for industry and security in the EU have been discussed. Moreover, a consideration was made about the obstacles to the adoption of innovation.
Finally, over 50 stands presented their solutions, which will be financed by the European programs, such as Horizon, Internal Security Fund, Border Management and Visa Policy Instrument (BMVI).
