INSME 21st Annual Meeting to Tackle SMEs’ Intangible Assets and the Impact of Generative AI

1 July 2025

INSME is proud to announce its 21st Annual Meeting, Protecting and Valuing SMEs’ Intangible Assets, taking place on October 20-21, 2025, in Alicante, co-organized with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). This year’s edition focuses on intangible assets such as intellectual property (IP), its relation with finance, patents, and proprietary knowledge and the role they play in driving the growth and competitiveness of SMEs in today’s rapidly evolving economy.

As SMEs increasingly rely on intangible assets to attract investment, secure financing, and foster sustainable growth, understanding how to strategically manage and protect these assets is critical. The meeting will explore practical tools for IP valuation, including how patents, trademarks, and trade secrets can be leveraged as financial assets, providing SMEs with new avenues for investment and market expansion.

The event comes at a pivotal time as generative artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes the innovation landscape. A recent EUIPO study on Generative AI and Copyright underscores the complex challenges and opportunities AI presents for IP protection. The study highlights growing uncertainties regarding the copyright status of AI-generated content and its implications for creative industries and businesses alike.

For SMEs, these developments present both risks and opportunities. While generative AI can boost creativity and productivity, questions around ownership, copyright eligibility, and enforcement remain largely unsettled. The Annual Meeting will address these concerns, examining how SMEs can safeguard their intangible assets in an AI-driven marketplace and adapt IP strategies to evolving technological realities.

Join the conversation in Alicante and be part of shaping the future of SME competitiveness in the age of intangible assets and generative AI.
