Meta Group, as part of the Empowering the Next Generation of Business Angels – ESIL project, has launched the ESIL Angel Academy, an online training programme offering more than 20 hours of practical content delivered by over 30 experienced Business Angels and innovation ecosystem experts.
The Academy was created to address the shortage of early-stage investors who possess the confidence, expertise, and networks needed to support ambitious entrepreneurs and promising deep-tech innovations before they become attractive to conventional sources of finance. At these early stages, companies often depend on patient capital, specialised industry knowledge, mentoring, and sustained investor engagement to achieve commercial success.
In addition, Business Angel investment remains unevenly distributed across Europe, with activity concentrated in a limited number of well-established ecosystems, while many regions, particularly those in widening countries, continue to have relatively low levels of angel investment.
Rather than concentrating exclusively on investment principles, the Academy is designed around the complete lifecycle of an angel investor. Participants gain practical insights into identifying and evaluating investment opportunities, negotiating investment terms, supporting entrepreneurial teams, understanding the specific characteristics of deep-tech ventures, and appreciating the benefits that diverse and inclusive investment communities bring to the innovation ecosystem.
