A recent publication, Policy Recommendations for an Interconnected European DeepTech Ecosystem, published by LEAP or the LUISS Institute for European Analysis and Policy, led to INSME hosting the online workshop Building an Interconnected European DeepTech Ecosystem. During this workshop, INSME discussed key strategies for strengthening Europe’s innovation landscape. The workshop provided a platform for insightful discussions on overcoming challenges faced by European DeepTech startups, particularly in cross-border collaboration and access to crucial resources.
Accelerators and incubators are pivotal to the success of the DeepTech ecosystem, playing a crucial role in nurturing and empowering startups by amplifying their potential within a European landscape that remains fragmented and often restrictive. To address the sector’s challenges, a viable solution may lie in strategically leveraging these accelerators and incubators, aligning their operations with both European policies and national objectives. By doing so, it would be possible to expand networks, foster greater integration, and encourage deeper collaboration within the ecosystem. This coordinated approach could pave the way for the creation of a unified Pan-European body, designed to standardize practices, promote cohesion across borders, and enhance the global visibility of the sector, ultimately driving sustainable growth and innovation across Europe.
Starting with compelling insights from the European project AccelerAction, Giovanni Zazzerini from INSME and Yeoryios Stamboulis, from the University of Thessaly, provided valuable perspectives on the role of accelerators, incubators, and policy alignment in fostering a thriving DeepTech ecosystem. As well as covering key topics, including the evaluation of various acceleration and incubation models, and the workshop also explored in depth the role of governments, and delved into the concrete strategies which can be adopted to tackle obstacles through the integration of European policies.
INSME as part of the AccelerAction ecosystem continues to play an active role in shaping the future of Europe’s innovation landscape, paving the way for stronger synergies and impactful policy developments.
