At COP16 in Cali, Colombia (October 21 – November 1, 2024), UNIDO, led by Deputy to the Director General Ciyong Zou, strengthened its commitment to addressing biodiversity challenges through sustainable industrial development. Key discussions focused on responsible mining, green energy, and circular economy practices, highlighting UNIDO’s role in advancing biodiversity-linked value chains such as aquaculture and food processing.
In meetings with Colombian officials, UNIDO emphasized support for industrialization centers (ZASCAS) and promoted initiatives like eco-industrial parks and traceable mining value chains to align with the country’s sustainability goals. The delegation also participated in panels, including the Voluntary Joint Declaration on Responsible Mining, reaffirming UNIDO’s global leadership in sustainable industry. “Partnerships and innovation are essential to addressing biodiversity challenges,” said Zou, underscoring UNIDO’s dedication to fostering global biodiversity protection through sustainable industrial solutions.
