Marking its 25-year anniversary and quarter-century commitment, the Bulgarian Development Bank celebrates that it has “supported 27 333 Bulgarian Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises”. This is represented by the Bank’s outstanding results since it was first established in 1999. The BGN capital has tremendously improved which led to the ability to finance Bulgarian business even under special government (BGN 7.4 billion). BDB is currently known as the only bank that lends resources through other credit institutions on top of direct financing in the country. Even though the initial aim was for the bank to just focus on small and medium sized enterprises, 8 years later, the Encouragement bank was also to become “an equal partner of the EU development banks”, which most EU member states have.
