March, 29, 2021

The 15thof March 2021 the EU Commission adopted the first strategic plan for Horizon Europe (2021-2027).The plan aims at empowering research and innovation in Europe, setting up orientations for meeting the most relevant EU priorities and it is going to be implemented through the Horizon Europe work programme. The plan is deemed to face environmental and social challenges for the next four years. It contains guidance on how to promote the digital transformation and on how to manage natural resources to boost the ecosystem and biodiversity. Furthermore, it aims at creating an inclusive and democratic society in Europe. Finally, it addresses several horizontal issues, such as the integration of the gender dimension. To meet these targets, partnerships have been identified in the field of research and innovation, either between the European Commission and privates or between the EU member states and/or industries. Calls of proposals for implementing activities in the framework of the Horizon Europe work programme will be launched in the spring of 2021 and will be presented at the European Research and Innovation Days on 23-24 June.
