The OECD-organized EECOLE Roundtable in Jakarta on November 26-27, 2024 explored innovative strategies for integrating AI into entrepreneurial ecosystems. Co-organised with ERIA, the event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers to discuss tailored solutions for startups and SMEs across ASEAN.
A key focus of the roundtable was a “place-responsive” approach, ensuring AI adoption aligns with the cultural and economic contexts of diverse regions. Discussions highlighted the importance of entrepreneurial skills, such as creativity and problem-solving, in fostering innovation and enabling businesses to harness AI’s potential effectively. Jakarta’s vibrant startup ecosystem was featured prominently, showcasing examples of localized AI applications and success stories. Policy challenges were also addressed, including the need for multilevel governance to create equitable access to AI resources and drive sustainable growth.
The event underscored the critical role of collaboration between institutions, governments, and private entities in building robust ecosystems. By empowering SMEs with the tools and skills to navigate digital transformation, the EECOLE initiative is driving forward a vision of inclusive, human-centric innovation that can reshape entrepreneurial landscapes globally.
