Joint Declaration on Baku Climate Coalition for SMEs’ Green Transition.

17 December, 2024

The Small and Medium Business Development Agency of Azerbaijan, KOBIA, is promoting the groundbreaking initiative with the Joint Declaration on the Baku Climate Coalition for SMEs’ Green Transition, rallying global stakeholders to empower SMEs in addressing climate change. INSME, as a signatory and endorser, joins governments, international organizations, private sector leaders, and academic institutions in recognizing the critical role of SMEs in fostering sustainable economic growth.

SMEs constitute the backbone of the global economy. Despite their substantial contributions, they face significant obstacles in transitioning to sustainable practices, including limited access to green technologies, financing, and expertise. The declaration underscores the importance of overcoming these challenges to enable SMEs to lead the charge in innovation, resilience, and green entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, this initiative sets forth a comprehensive roadmap to support SMEs’ green transformation. Key commitments include raising awareness through training programs and digital platforms, fostering access to climate finance, and encouraging partnerships with larger corporations to integrate SMEs into sustainable supply chains. The establishment of Green SME Resource Centers is also proposed to facilitate access to knowledge, technology, and tailored solutions.

By launching its coalition, KOBIA has catalyzed a global movement to ensure SMEs are at the forefront of the net-zero transition. This collaborative effort highlights the indispensable role of SMEs in building a sustainable future and underscores the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in achieving climate resilience and inclusive growth.
