News from the XPRESS Project

October, 6, 2020

The XPRESS Project was kicked off in September 2019 and in this first year of implementation many things happened to contribute to a facilitated dialogue between public authorities and SMEs in order to implement renewable energy sources (RES) technologies by green public procurement.

All partners contributed to the organization of the first round of co-creation workshops (INSME was responsible for the UK and Italy’s events which have been held digitally because of the Covid-19 emergency). These meetings involving public authorities and private actors have been of paramount importance to have a clear frame of the obstacles met in the approach with green public procurement, i.e. the regulatory constraints. In order to deepen the challenges, identify the most suitable solutions as well as explore the opportunities that can be generated by the participation to GPP, the project will organize further meetings.

So far, the XPRESS Project found out that bureaucratic and financial barriers are the most relevant to SMEs and startups which also meet difficulties in searching public tenders focused on RES. In this regard, XPRESS has developed a user-friendly tool – available here – that makes the search much easier. Furthermore, a matchmaking tool has been created to facilitate the interaction between public authorities and SMEs involved in GPP. The tool is available at this page.

In addition, an online form to identify needs and ideas of public authorities and SMEs that are willing to adopt Renewable Energy Sources (RES) technologies is available on the project’s official website. If the topic is of interest please participate in the survey here and spread the word among relevant actors.
