The Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association (EMEA) in collaboration with the Beterlsmann Stiftung Foundation published the study “Strengthening EU-Southern Neighbourhood Relations: The Imperative of Equal Partnerships in the Green Energy Transition”. The study highlights the pivotal role of green energy cooperation between the EU and its Southern Neighbourhood as a transformative pathway towards strengthening bilateral relations for the region. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the geopolitical imperative for the EU to bolster its ties with this region so that both regions can not only transform their energy sectors but also build a partnership founded on mutual respect and shared progress.
Moreover, the study promotes an equitable approach, aiming to ensure that the shift to renewable energy meets the environmental and energy security requirements of the EU while also driving economic development and sustainability in the Southern Neighbourhood. It underscores the significance of joint endeavors in technology transfer, capacity building, and inventive financing methods to establish a robust and sustainable energy framework that benefits both regions. Lastly, its suggestions outline a fair and collaborative path towards a green transition, aligning with wider objectives of sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
