The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman: Australian Government appoints Bruce Billson, former Minister for SME, as new Ombudsman for SMEs

March, 29, 2021

Former Franchise Council of Australia chair, Hon. Bruce Billson, has been appointed Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO). The Ombundsman, an independent advocate for small business owners, has the legislative powers needed to influence lawmakers, ensuring legislation and regulations are put in place to help small businesses grow, and provides small businesses and family enterprises with assistance should they find themselves involved in a business dispute.

First launched in 2016, ASBFEO’s role is to support small businesses and family enterprises to enable them to grow and thrive. It achieves this goal through assistance and advocation of small businesses and family enterprises, by providing access to non-judicial dispute resolution services for those who may be involved in a disagreement and by conducting different activities including conducting inquiries and research, working with other arms of government, contribute to other inquiries and promote good business practice.
