On the 1st of June, Vienna, The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) officially launched the UNIDO foundation – a new tool to support inclusive and sustainable industrial development worldwide through mobilising private sector resources, expertise and partnerships.
The UNIDO Foundation acts as a global platform where businesses, philanthropies, and industry associations join forces with UNIDO to address the most pressing development challenges – from climate change and food security to sustainable supply chains and digital transformation. Rather than channelling resources into isolated initiatives, the foundation pools private sector contributions and directs them towards a portfolio of high-impact flagship projects spanning industrial decarbonization, renewable energy, sustainable value chains, and food systems transformation
The mission of the UNIDO foundation revolves around three main focuses: supporting sustainable supply chains so producers in developing countries get a fair deal while conserving resources; limiting climate breakdown by promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and cleaner production and fighting hunger through robust agribusiness value chains and reduced post-harvest losses. The foundation also tackles further cross-cutting themes such as digitalization and AI, gender equality, circular economy, and industrial policy advice, ensuring solutions are both innovative and scalable.
