World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023, Davos

18 January 2022

From 16 to 20 January, the Swiss town of Davos hosted the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, which in 2023 met under the theme “Cooperation in a fragmented world“. The event brought together some 2,500 heads of State and Government, business CEOs, civil society representatives, global media and youth leaders from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America to work together to rebuild trust and shape the principles, policies and partnerships needed to meet the challenges of 2023. The Annual Meeting provides a platform to engage in constructive, forward-looking dialogues and help find solutions through public-private cooperation. The Davos Forum 2023 seeks to drive forward-looking solutions and address the most pressing global challenges through public-private cooperation.

As more than 1,500 business leaders came together in Davos for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting 2023 – the highest ever business participation – the future of non-financial reporting and investment was high on the agenda.

Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, participated in the event, discussing on how to cooperate on the EU’s innovative response to fostering both competitiveness and resilience. European companies need to be at the forefront of the new wave of innovation, if they want to remain competitive in the global market, where the EUInnovationAgenda has measures for funding, experimenting, strengthening ecosystems and empowering talents with relevant skills. Overall, the Commissioner’s message was clear: to act for resilience, it is time to seize the momentum! Investing in education and fundamental research, by building cohesive ecosystems in vibrant regional innovation valleys and by implementing synergies between academia and industry are the key concepts that were put forward at Davos.
