INSMEAcademy: market-creating innovation in the Nigerian entrepreneurial ecosystem

30 April 2021

The INSMEAcademy session on “Building Entrepreneurial Ecosystems”, held on the 30th of March 2021, explored the Nigerian business environment with Giovanni Zazzerini, INSME Secretary General, Anita Umoh Amorighoye, Co-founder and Chief Executive of Ayzer Centre for Entrepreneurship, and her colleague Stella Nnedinma Ayika.

The webinar focused on the traits which define and characterise the emerging Nigerian entrepreneurial ecosystem, from the characteristics of the young and large population and the role of social entrepreneurship to the well-structured sectors of entertainment and the Nigerian unicorns.

During the introduction, Secretary General Zazzerini described the relationship between support policies and innovation, arguing that in less developed countries, an ecosystem can be developed starting from the so-called “market-creating innovation”, which, in the absence of a policy-supported ecosystem, pulls the necessary resources and builds the entrepreneurial ecosystem needed.
